Children's Education Programs

Children explore the wonders of the gardens, read stories, play games and make crafts related to the day's theme.

2013 Summer Youth Program: Come see what's growing!

Super Sprouts for ages 18 months to 3 years Parent/caregiver is required to stay with child during class.  Fee is $5 per session. 
10:00 to 10:40 a.m. Mondays

June 10th:  Gnomes Hide and Seek!  Come to the gardens to hunt for the Arboretum's newest residents:  Gnomes!
June 24th:  All Aboard!  Be a train engineer! We’ll play, sing, and follow our train through the Children’s Garden.
July 8th:  Teddy Bear Picnic!  Bring your bear and have fun in the Children’s Garden.

Youth Classes All classes require registration at least 7 days prior to the event and payment is due at the time of registration. Single Class Fee is $7 for members or $8 for non-members or All Sessions Package $30 for members or $40 for non-members.

New this year - youth classes will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  You may sign your child up for either day.

Terrific Tadpoles for children ages 3, 4 & 5
9:00-10:00 a.m.  Tuesday or Thursdays
Parent/caregiver is required to stay with child during class. 

June 18 or 20: Rainbow Garden
Explore the beautiful gardens at The Arboretum.  We will watch the gardens come alive as they relate to our five senses, make “hand” flowers and much more!

June 25 or 27: Frog in the Bog
Feeling stuck in the mud?  Come to The Arboretum and learn about the life cycle of a frog.  Come with us to explore the pond, have a frog race and make your own pond puppets!

July 9 or 11: Bubbles Galore
Meet us in the garden for bubbles, bubbles and more bubbles!  We’ll do bubbly hands-on activities and you’ll take home your own bubbly artwork.

July 16 or 18: Bug Safari
A real garden adventure! We’ll discover, explore and investigate the world of insects.

July 23 or 25: Wormy Wiggler Fun
Have you ever wanted to learn how worms can see without any eyes?  We’ll explore a worm’s world as we observe their different sizes, have fun on a worm obstacle course and eat a dirt snack!

July 30 or August 1: Traveling Seeds
Going anywhere fun this summer?  How will you get there?  By car, train or airplane?  Seeds travel in many different ways… just like people do!  Come discover the adventurous lives of seeds.

Friendly Frogs for ages 6, 7 & 8
10:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesdays or Thursdays

June 18 or 20: Bugs & Butterflies
Experience an adventure as we explore the gardens, have a bug scavenger hunt, eat critter snacks … plus play in the dirt!  What can be more fun than that?

June 25 or 27: Rain Garden
Where does rain go? Often it goes down a drain in the street and on to the area's waterways, but this precious resource could be saved and reused!  Find out how as we study rain garden design and discuss how a rain garden can help our environment! 

July 9 or 11: For the Birds
This is for you!  We’ll use binoculars, build feeders and play games as we learn about our friend the bird!

July 16 or 18: Wonderful Weather
Thunder, lightning, and tornadoes, Oh MY!  Weather experiments will rule our day.  We’ll make a tornado in a bottle and discover what causes lightning.

July 23 or 25: Trash into Treasure
Discover ways to recycle, reuse and reduce waste.  We’ll make wind chimes from household materials and learn about composting.

July 30 or August 1: Yoga in the Trees
Explore the serenity of nature at The Arboretum.  We’ll walk the labyrinth, do yoga in the trees and enjoy a peaceful craft.
