Program Registration Information All classes, unless specified, require registration at least 7 days prior to the event and payment is due at the time of registration. If less than the minimum number of participants enroll, the class will be canceled and participants given a refund. All classes are held in The Arboretum’s Education Center at 1927 East Orange Road (directly east of Hawkeye Community College). Most classes will spend time outside so please dress appropriately for the weather.
For questions regarding registration, please call (319)226-4966 or email office@cedarvalleyarboretum.org. All classes for youth ages 3-8 have a student/teacher ratio of 5 to 1. No on site registrations will be accepted. In the case of rainy weather, children’s Thursday classes will be postponed and rescheduled for the next day, Friday. All registrants will be notified by 8:00 a.m. the day of class if postponed due to weather or safety concerns.
Refund Policy If a program is canceled, you will be notified and receive a full refund. If you choose to cancel your registration, you must call (319) 226-4966 a minimum of 24 hours in advance to receive a refund. A $25 fee will be charged for all registration checks returned due to insufficient funds.

Super Sprouts For ages 18 to 36 months. Parent/caregiver is required to stay with child during class. Registration is required at least 7 days prior to the event and payment is due at the time of registration.

Terrific Tadpoles
For ages 3, 4 & 5. Parents and children will explore the wonders of the gardens! We’ll read stories, play games, use our imaginations and make crafts all related to our theme. Wild Wind June 7th at 9:00-10:00 a.m.
Blow in, and find out all the useful ways wind can work and how it can entertain us!
Fancy Flowers June 14th at 9:00-10:00 a.m.
Young horticulturalists will have lots of fun exploring the shapes, colors, sizes, and smells of the flowers at the Arboretum.
Movement in Nature June 21st at 9:00-10:00 a.m.
Join us in the garden for a moving experience. You’ll jump, crawl, and flap your wings as we explore the many ways things move in the garden.
Wet All Over June 28th at 9:00-10:00 a.m.
From mud puddles to bubbles, we will discover the many ways that water is used in the garden and on our earth.
Dig In July 12th 9:00-10:00 a.m.
Come play in the dirt and discover the many different kinds of soil.
Flyers, Feeders & Seeders
July 19th 9:00-10:00 a.m.
This class is "for the birds!" We will take discovery adventure walk around the gardens, using binoculars to spot, observe, and identify birds!

Friendly Frogs
For ages 6, 7 & 8.
We’ll do experiments, hunt through the garden and get dirty while make amazing discoveries. Registration is required at least 7 days prior to the event and payment is due at the time of registration. Fee is $5 for members or $7 for non-members per session.
Hey, Bud!
June 7th at 10:30-11:30 a.m.
Did you know that plants have parts that work the same ways as some people parts? Come have fun learning about flowers and create your very own picture using real flower parts.
Veggie Vehicles
June 14th at 10:30-11:30 a.m.
With some vegetables, we eat the flower, some the stem, and others, the root. Do you know what part of the plant you eat when you eat a vegetable? You’ll have lots of fun as you explore vegetables and create your own vehicle out of veggies!
Take a Tree Walk
June 21st at 10:30-11:30 a.m.
Come learn all about trees! You will enjoy, appreciate, and gain knowledge of trees through hands-on exploring and a nature walk.
It Makes Scents
June 28th at 10:30-11:30 a.m.
Children will use their senses to explore a variety of herbs. We will explore the gardens to experience the textures, colors, scents and flavors of these diverse plants – and make our own tasty herbal treat, too!
Turn Over A New Leaf
July 12th at 10:30-11:30 a.m.
Young leaf detectives will take an investigative walk through the Arboretum to collect evidence... the different shapes, sizes and types of leaves found on native trees. Closer examination will reveal the parts of the leaves and lead to identification. The collected leaves will be used to create a unique piece of artwork.

Join local experts as we brush up on gardening basics and learn about new trends for the 2012 growing season.

Succulents Rock! with Maurine Crisp
Rock gardening is all the rage this year, and the Arboretum has jumped on the bandwagon! Join Maurine in the Arboretum’s new Rock Garden to explore the many colors, forms and textures available in xerioscaping. Maurine will also show how to incorporate succulents into your containers. Succulents of all shapes and colors will be available after the class for a modest donation.

Plant Trends with Heidi Tietz DeSilva,
Petersen & Tietz Nursery
Trends come and go just like the seasons. What will be hot in the world of gardening this summer? Heidi will share with us what’s new in garden design, colors and containers as well new annuals and perennials on the market. Some of Heidi’s favorite plants will be available for sale after the class.

Made in the Shade with Stephanie Witte,

Have a shady spot you’d like to infuse some color into? Join Stephanie in the Arboretum’s Shade Garden to explore diverse collection of annuals and perennials available to incorporate with your favorite hostas. New varieties of colorful shade annuals will be available after the class for a modest donation.
