The enduring purpose of the Arboretum is to provide a public green space to connect people with nature through summer education programs, volunteer opportunities, and gardens to enjoy. No sensory overload - just fresh air and natural beauty.
The Arboretum sits on 72 acres just east of Hawkeye Community College, with over half of the grounds still in corn and soybeans planted by the college's agriculture department. With an emphasis on our natural world, the buildings, gardens, and artwork have a strong organic theme, tied to Iowa's agricultural roots. |
