Accessible Nature for All

Visiting natural spaces provides benefits to everyone, but the way they are designed can be a barrier to those who want to visit. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to spend time surrounded by the beauty of our natural world and that we have a responsibility to do what we can to make our location as accessible as possible both physically and culturally.

Accessibility initiatives at the Arboretum include:

  • The addition of a mobility scooter and two wheelchairs for visitor use
  • These items are provided on a first-come, first-serve basis, but visitors are encouraged to call and ask if they are available before they arrive and unload for their visit.
  • Upgraded website design & social media standards
  • The Arboretum website has been designed to be accessible on all devices. One area we are still working on and improving upon is adding alternate text and image descriptors to posts and digital items.
  • Accessible information:
  • We are looking into ways we can provide information about the Arboretum in different languages and formats.
